Auto hold standby

Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market.

What it means

Auto hold can keep the Atto 3 still after you stop, without your foot staying on the brake. The white AVH lamp means standby: the feature is switched on, but it is not holding the car yet. Standby needs the switch on, the driver belt fastened, the doors closed, and the brake system healthy. The lamp turns green when hold is actually applied, after you stop with the brake in a driving gear. After a long hold the car applies the parking brake and returns to standby.

What to do

Fasten the driver belt and close the doors if you expect the white lamp. A green lamp means you can release the brake pedal and the car should stay put; press the accelerator to move off. The white lamp alone is not holding the car. If you leave the car, select Park and confirm the parking-brake lamp, and do not rely on auto hold instead.

Common questions

The lamp is white and the car rolls when I lift the brake. Is it broken?
White is standby, not hold. Hold is the green lamp, and it applies after a stop in a driving gear with the other conditions met. Until then the service brake is what keeps the car still.
Why will auto hold not go to standby?
The driver belt has to be fastened, the doors closed, and the switch on. A brake-system or parking-brake fault also blocks it. The feature is not a substitute for Park when you leave the car.
