Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market.
What it means
This reminder lights when a monitored seat belt is not fastened after the car is powered on. On the Atto 3 the front seats are monitored, and the cluster can also show which position is unbuckled. The lamp stays on until that belt is fastened. If the car starts to move with a belt still open, a chime is added.
What to do
Fasten every occupied belt before you move. The lap belt sits low on the hips and the diagonal belt crosses the chest, not under an arm or behind the back. If the lamp stays on after the buckle clicks, that buckle may not be seeing the latch. Use another seat until it is checked. Auto hold also expects the driver belt to be fastened.

Common questions
- The lamp is on and the seat is empty. Why?
- A heavy bag on a monitored seat can look like an occupant. Move the bag, or buckle that belt if someone is sitting there. If an empty seat still triggers it, have the sensor checked.
- Does the airbag replace the belt?
- No. The airbag is a supplement. An unbuckled occupant is not held in the position the airbag expects, and this reminder is there so the belt is used.
