Change the BYD Seal language
This page is about the language of the large center screen on the Seal sedan. The cluster is a separate display. Do this while the car is parked. The steps stay general on purpose: this page has not confirmed one set of menu labels for every Seal year, and it will not borrow a path from a different BYD and present it as the Seal’s.
This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market.
Which cars this covers
The car here is the Seal sedan, not the Seal U, Seal 5, Seal 6, or any Sealion. Export sales of this sedan began around 2023, on a DiLink center screen. This page has not confirmed a menu label that holds for every Seal year. Owner discussion and firmware lists often describe early export cars as a DiLink 4.0-class unit, and later cars can show a newer interface. Those are second-hand descriptions, not a specification this page can attach to your VIN. Read the version in the system information on your screen. A China-built Seal brought in outside the official channel can show only Chinese, and the setting you want may not exist until a supported update, which that car may be unable to take. No public video of this sedan’s own language screen was checked, so none is embedded. Clips of the Seal 5, Seal 6, or Seal U are different cars.

Steps
- 01
Park and use the center screen only
Put the Seal in Park and wake the center screen. Stay parked until any restart has finished. These steps are about that screen. They are not a procedure for the cluster.
- 02
Open settings and look for the job, not a memorized label
Open the settings area. A language control, when the software has one, is the entry that changes the language of the menus. Because a single Seal path has not been confirmed here, do not follow a sequence you saw on an Atto 3, a Seal U, or a Han unless the same words are actually on your screen. If they are not, stop.
- 03
Change the language only from a list the car shows
If a list is present, pick the language and confirm. Wait through a blank screen. The center screen should redraw. If the only entry is Chinese, or there is no language entry, the installed image does not offer the choice. Continuing to search is not how a missing pack appears.
- 04
Check warnings and speech after the redraw
Read a cluster warning and, if you use it, the voice assistant. Either can stay in the old language. Speech packs are often downloaded separately and can be missing on a car whose software region is China.
- 05
Treat a Chinese-only Seal as a software problem
A gray-import Seal that never shows another language needs a supported update for that VIN, not more taps. A phone can translate the current screen. It cannot add the pack.
When the menu will not change
The menu never leaves Chinese
That is common on a China-spec Seal sold outside the official channel. A dealer who can see the VIN on a supported update service is the realistic route. Over-the-air updates from the export service often do not reach these cars. An unofficial package is a separate risk: the wrong DiLink build can black the screen and can stop the car taking a later official update.
The handbook you have does not match the screen
Seal software moved after the first export years. A description that fitted a 2023 car can be wrong on a later interface. When the screen and the book disagree, the screen is the car you have, and an uncertain label should stay uncertain rather than be filled in from another model.
Reset restores the image default
A factory reset returns the language the installed image treats as default. On a China image that is Chinese. The language list does not get larger because you reset.
Cluster or assistant still in another language
They are not the center-screen setting. This page will not invent a cluster menu that has not been confirmed on the Seal. Assistant languages, where they exist, live in the assistant’s own settings.
Common questions
Does this page cover the Seal U?
No. The Seal U is the export name used for the Song Plus family and has its own page. A Seal U video is not a Seal sedan video.
Why is the video slot empty?
Nothing is embedded unless a public YouTube video shows this sedan’s center screen changing language and YouTube allows the embed. Searches turned up the Seal 5, Seal 6, Seal U, and unnamed BYD screens. Those were not used.
Can I copy the Atto 3 menu path onto a Seal?
Only if your Seal actually shows the same words. The Atto 3 handbook sentence is about an Atto 3. Using it as a guess on a Seal is how the wrong setting gets changed.
