Change the BYD Han language
This page is about the language of the large center screen on a Han. The cluster behind the wheel is separate. Do this while the car is parked. One handbook sentence is quoted below, and it is labeled as that book. The steps themselves stay general, because the Han has worn more than one infotainment generation and this page will not pretend they share a menu.
This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market.
Which cars this covers
Published text of a 2022 Han EV handbook describes a language choice on the center screen and names Simplified Chinese and English, reached through the infotainment settings of that book, in a DiLink group, then “more”, then language. That wording is the 2022 book. The Han has been on sale since 2020. An early car’s screen is not the screen in a 2024 or 2025 Han, and public firmware tables put different Han years on different DiLink generations. This page will not draw one path through all of them. A gray-import Han is the case where the menu stays in Chinese and a setting cannot add a language the software does not contain. People ask a dealer for an update, or hope for an official over-the-air package. A China-spec car is often outside the export update service. No public video of a Han center screen changing language was checked, so none is embedded.

Steps
- 01
Park and wake the center screen
Put the Han in Park and bring the center screen up. Stay parked through any restart. The cluster is not the display these steps change.
- 02
Open settings, and use the 2022 wording only if you see it
Open the settings area of the center screen. If your car is the one that 2022 handbook describes, the language control is in that book’s infotainment settings. If the words on your screen are different, you do not have that menu. Stop, rather than forcing the 2022 order onto another year.
- 03
Select a language from a list that is actually shown
The 2022 book names Simplified Chinese and English. Other years can list more, or only Chinese, or nothing. Choose and confirm only from the list in front of you. Wait if the screen restarts. It should redraw in the language you picked.
- 04
Check the cluster and the voice assistant on their own
A change on the center screen is not proof that cluster warnings or spoken prompts changed. Assistant languages, where the software has them, are often a separate download and can be missing on a China-market image.
- 05
A missing list ends the menu method
If there is no language control, further taps will not create one. That is the usual gray-import Han. Read the problems section. A camera translation is only a way to read the Chinese that is already there.
When the menu will not change
Gray-import Han, Chinese only
China-market software often ships without an export language list. A dealer who can apply a supported update for the VIN is the route that matches the car. Over-the-air service for export markets frequently does not see these cars. Do not flash a package meant for another Han year or another DiLink generation. The failure mode people report is a black screen, and a car that then cannot take the official update either.
The 2022 path is not the 2020 path or the 2025 path
The handbook sentence above is narrow on purpose. Early Han cars and the newest Han cars use other screens. If your menu does not contain those words, the honest statement is that this page does not know your labels. Inventing them would be worse than saying so.
OTA added nothing
An update entry in the menu is not evidence that a language pack is waiting. Ask whether this VIN is on the update service for your market. “No updates” on a China-spec car is a common result, not a sign that you missed a submenu.
Reset, cluster, voice
Factory reset restores the image default. On a China image that is Chinese. The cluster can remain Chinese. Voice can remain Chinese even when the menus do not, because it is a different setting.
Common questions
Does the 2022 DiLink wording apply to every Han?
No. It is the wording of a 2022 Han EV handbook. Cars from 2020 and cars from the newest years use other software. Use those words only when they are printed on your screen.
Why is there no video?
A video is embedded only when it shows a Han center screen changing language and YouTube allows the embed. The clips found were other BYD models or unnamed screens. Leaving the slot empty is the accurate result.
The menus are Chinese after a reset. Did the language pack get deleted?
A reset returns the default of the image that is installed. If that image is the China build, Chinese was the default. The pack was not necessarily deleted. It may never have been in the image.
